What is XAdES? (XML Advanced Electronic Signatures)

XAdES (ETSI EN 319 132) is the standard for advanced electronic signatures over XML, built on the XML-DSig specification. It can sign a whole document, specific elements, or external resources, which makes it the default for signed XML such as e-invoices.

Where it's used

XAdES underpins many national e-invoicing and e-government formats because so much regulated data is exchanged as XML. It is also the signature format inside ASiC containers that carry XML payloads.
